Our Holiday Season

That crazy ice storm we experienced in December also messed up Bobby's Preschool Christmas show. Thankfully, the school was able to reschedule for the next week officially kicking off our Christmas vacation!

Bobby's class performing some Christmas song, but I honestly can't remember what it was since it was so long ago. He doesn't remember, either.
Bobby and his best friend from school. Seriously, these two.
On December 23rd, we attended our church's Christmas service. Bobby did very well during the service.
Partly due to this...
Our adopted daughter, Lan, came with us!
On Christmas Eve we drove to Arlington and went to my home church's service. After, my mom, dad and I drove around looking at Christmas lights! Bobby wasn't so into it, so we left him & Tim at home!
Christmas morning was filled with fun and presents! Tim got a surprise gift (he's rarely surprised)!
After Christmas, it was off to Hye to make sausage! I am always so bad about taking pictures of the process, but I will try harder next year. Here are some pretty Hill Country views and the cuteness of Bobby for now.

May The Fourth Be With You

I really try to keep Bobby's birthdays simple. We threw a rather large party for his second birthday and it kind of took the fun out of celebrating him (at least it did for me). And of course, he doesn't remember a thing about it. So I may put a little more time into decorating his birthday cake, if I feel like it that year, but I try to keep the invitation list to a minimum and as well asa the amount of planning I put into the party. So when I said the ice made us cancel his "Big" 4th birthday party, it was really just a small get-together. And honestly, Bobby was none the wiser. He really enjoyed the small party we were able to have.

Bobby asked for a Star Wars themed party which hindered me from making a Wilton cake for him. I looked up the pans on E-Bay and the R2-D2 pan (the same one my mom used to make my brother's birthday cake years ago) was going for about $60. So, to Kroger we went. Later, he said he wanted a LEGO Star Wars birthday. Uh - sorry, kid. But he did get plenty of LEGO's for gifts.

On his actual birthday, we got the cake out that we were supposed to have the day before. Tim said it wasn't fair for him to NOT get to eat cake on his birthday. So he got to have a piece!
Yes, the cake was supposed to say, "May the "FOURTH" be with You" but Kroger thought it made more sense to say, "FOURT".
He also got to pick the place to eat lunch - McDonald's! It was the first time we had ventured out of the house in four days!
The day after his actual birthday, we had a few friends over during the day to have a play-day party! Fun fun stuff!
Later that week was the dreaded 4th year check up with the pediatrician. If you are unaware, children get immunizations and boosters almost every visit as an infant until around 2. Then they have a 2 year break. At 4, you get up to 4 shots! Bobby was unaware. I know they tell you to let the child know everything that will happen, but I was certain this type of information would fill him with anxiety, so I kept him in the dark until the very end when the lady came in with the needles. Oh my goodness! My poor child! He cried and acted so betrayed! I had never gotten emotional when he received a shot, but I did this time! I started crying, too and telling him, "I'm so sorry!" and saying how I hated it when he got hurt. I had to take a few minutes to compose myself before we walked out into the hall!

I made sure to do something extra special after the doctor's visit! This year, we went straight to the mall for some ice cream and a visit with Santa.
Look at that face - still super upset!
He got a little tongue-tied with Santa this year! It was pretty funny! We rehearsed several times - that he wanted a LEGO Storm Trooper figure for Christmas. But the minute he got put on the spot, he just looked down and shrugged his shoulders, just like Ralphie in A Christmas Story, "Football? What's a football?" I had to remind him of his one wish, and after that he got a little more confidence.
